Baby and Work

I heard the baby's heartbeat last week. It was 144bpm and sounded like a washing machine! I recorded it on my phone and emailed it to myself, but haven't figured out if I can put it on the blog yet!

So far, I have gained 8lbs. How disappointing! But, I have been having appointments at 4pm and am in a lovely swelling phase! My rings don't fit, my socks leave indentations, and all of my shoes are tight! Scott and I went to SF a few weeks ago and I bought some great boots at Nordstrom (they were 1/2 size bigger for comfort) and as of right now, they don't zip! Sheesh! I wear a size 11, which is hard enough to find without having to look for wide or even *gasp* size 12!

So, I have been wearing flip-flops to work! Not so professional, but necessary! And even those leave a slight indentation at the end of the day. The doctor wasn't too concerned about it... my blood pressure is normal. He says it's the heat and standing all day. Needless to say, I have been looking for more ways to sit and teach. Maybe one of these days I'll tell the class I am having a baby!

Speaking of heat, my air conditioner in my classroom has broken 4 times this school year (10 whole days) leaving my room at 90 degrees and 30 people miserable! The maintenece guys are trying to fix it, but it is getting unbearable! Back to school night was Thursday and of course it was broken then! So, I tried to talk fast about curriculum, expectations, management, etc... but then every parent wanted to talk about their student. This may have been OK, but it was 90 freaking degrees and I am a swollen pregnant woman!!! Plus, it wasn't parent teacher conferences and we'd only been in school 9 days. The parents I needed to contact, I had already! I know, I will soon be one of those parents, so I shouldn't complain... I just wanted to pass out! I will say though, this year I think I have some great supportive parents! Even some who may help out once in a while! What a change from last year!

Luckily the district bigwigs were in my room when someone asked "is it always this hot in here." As a parent I would be upset if that was the learning environment of the classroom. I know I can't teach and the kids can't focus enough to listen! Hopefully, it will be fixed on Monday! Otherwise I may have to resort to a doctors note saying "Jan is advised against overheating and dehydration. This could lead to complications...." Maybe then I could get a NEW a/c in my portable instead of trying to rig it so it works most of the time! HA!

Last bit of news... I get my ultrasound on Tuesday! We are still not finding out the sex, but are excited to see if baby is healthy and developing as he/she should! I will post pictures next week!!
