I have been great about sending out pictures and keeping people updated though! It seems to be easier to send out a mass email than to post here, then email everyone to let them know to check this. Plus I am a bit creeped out that my name and stuff is on here :) Also in that time, we got a new computer and I had all passwords saved on the old one!

At the last update, Jacob was about 22lbs... he is now 33! But he has been for quite a few months now. He seems to be slowing down... except in height! He is about 36 inches and everyone says he looks like he is 3!

Jacob is so smart, and he surprises me every day. His newest word is "Yesss!" And he says HI all the time! It cracks me up. All kids do this, but that is not what makes him so smart! He knows some colors and can recognize shapes (circles and triangles) and letters (O, M, B, T, E so far). He knows all his animal noises.. the funniest being the rooster!

His personality is really showing too. He is so much like me. He is independent and says "I do it" all the time! He is compassionate too. When he is mad and starts smacking, I pretend I am hurt and immediately you see him get sad because I am hurt. He hugs me and does the sign for "sorry." At Leah's, his babysitter, when another girl his age cries, he cries with her! He's so sweet!

I could go on and on about how brilliant he is! I could also write a book about the fits he can throw! Mostly they are because he wants to be independent and I want him to be 20 months and not 5!

I'll post pictures soon!

Portraits

Here they are... his official 6 month pics!
At his last appointment his stats were:
Weight 21lbs 2 oz
Height 29.5 inches
Percentile: 97 (still)

Time Flies!

My baby boy is 6 months old today! I can hardly believe it... time goes by too fast! As much as I miss my brand new snugly baby, I am even more in love than the day he came into our lives! I had to leave my sweet baby and go be mother to a bunch of crazy 11 yr olds. My first day back, Jacob was with Scott and baby was cranky. Scott finally got him to sleep by putting a shirt I wore to bed in the swing with Jacob. So, I came home to see my little boy hugging my shirt. No guilt there! The next two days he was with a lady from church and still grouchy! Friday I got home and he cried for three hours. I guess he was really mad at me! Thank God I am on spring break this week! I keep telling myself "only 8 weeks of school left after break." I think I can do it, but I don't want to!

He had his 2 month appointment this morning and got his first round of shots. Augh. Can my heart be broken any more? He looked at me like I did it to him and cried so pitifully. Then, when we got in the car, he fell into a deep sleep... in fact, he is still sleeping. This parenting thing is heartwrenching!

But, here are his stats... he's a healthy boy! Yeah!
Weight: 14 lbs. 4 oz (97th percentile)
Height: 24 " two feet tall! (90th percentile)
Head: 16.5 inches (90th percentile)

I'll post a picture when he is feeling a bit better!

I don't wanna go!

Waahhh! I'll admit he's growing! He will be 7 weeks in 2 days and last week weighed in at 12 lbs and 5 oz. He is in the 97th percentile for weight. I find out on the 27th how long he is, and I am sure he will be off the charts!

All his hair is falling out too.. so now he almost has a mullet! But, it's so cute. And I figure as long as he's bald he will still look like a baby and not way older than he is (which he already seems to)!

Here are a couple pictures. One taken yesterday on St. Patty's Day (onesie says "Rub my belly for good luck") and one last week. His onsie there says "party in my crib 2 am"... and it is no joke! That night he was wide awake! I guess I will think twice before he wears that again!

(Malinda and Amy... I haven't posted any family pics because we haven't taken any! I have a few of Jacob and Mom or Jacob and Dad, but none of all three! Guess I need to get on that! But, here is my favorite picture of the two of us taken a few weeks ago.... I love the look on his face!)

More pictures!

Well, I can't seem to find much time to post. He weighed 8lbs and 8oz and was 21.5 inches long! And, he is beautiful! It is quite the adjustment and we are a bit sleep deprived, but we are loving every minute of him!

The first picture is right after he was born and the second was taken just a few minutes ago. Man, I love this boy! I am sure I will be posting many more pictures... but for now, I am going to take a shower before Scott leaves for work! I may be dressed before 1 pm today!

Nothing

Nada, zip! My ticker says "It's finally here!" But, it lies! Two days past due and no signs of Baby arriving anytime soon! I went to the doctor today and am still at the same point as last week... stalled! My cervix is thinning, but I have not dilated at all. So, I get to go back in FIVE days so I can be checked again and maybe induced.

I guess this means I am back at work tomorrow and friday. The poor kids in my class.... I am sure I have been a bit grouchy this week! But, I need to keep doing my job so I can spend as much time off after Baby decides to make and appearance!

Well, I am depressed, so I guess I will go have a beer (diet, caffiene free, root) and clean my house more! Maybe I will even go to Target and look at baby clothes and browse the pink and blue sections! I am tired of yellow and green!

I am only going to say this once... Damn!

One day

Wow! Tomorrow is my due date! I don't think Baby will arrive on time, but I am a bit freaked out! I still need to finish cleaning my house. I swear I have been nesting for months, only everything keeps getting dirty again! Where is this burst of energy I keep hearing about? Maybe I am using it all by still working. On the weekend I have great plans to finish cleaning, but then I just relax! Oh well, the baby won't care, right?

Everyone at work was asking if Friday was my last day... I said only if I have the baby this weekend, otherwise I would be there Monday! I have another doctor appointment Wednesday, two days after my due date. He did say last Thursday that we should have a baby next week. I guess we'll see. Everyday I tell the kids in my class... "I'll be here tomorrow, unless I have the baby tonight!"

I think I am still in denial about being pregnant! I am looking forward to holding and meeting the baby, but I am also full of anxiety! I am not to the stage of being so uncomfortable that I just want the baby out... I could do this a couple more weeks and be OK, maybe. We watched the birth video and I am NOT ready for all that! However, I am ready to be able to put my shoes on and breathe again!

Well, it is 2:04am and I have been awake for well over an hour. I guess I am getting ready to be up at all hours of the night as sleep has become a distant memory! I think I will go and watch a few infomercials and try to get some sleep!

Two weeks to go! Ok, so it is covered in clothes... you didn't think I would show skin, did you? Mine is not that cute to be that proud of!

Only two weeks until my due date. Then we can all finally know who I have been hiding! My doctor says he won't let me go more than a week overdue, so I guess I may possibly have three weeks left.

I start back to work tomorrow... and after having three weeks off, I am not looking forward to it! Luckily tomorrow is just staff development and the kids return on Tuesday. I still have plans to make!

I am at the wonderful stage in pregnancy of needing to pee approximately every 20 minutes, or 35 steps, whichever somes first! So, I should have an interesting two weeks of work, especially considering my classroom is as far away from the front of the school as you can get! But, exercise is great, right? Just pray my water doesn't break in the middle of math! Should I buy some depends? Hmm.

Well, I have a baby shower to attend in a few minutes (not my own!)... I knew how all (Amy) were (was) waiting to see my hot new figure :)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://babysalsedo.blogspot.com/2007/01/two-weeks-to-go-ahhh.html' title='Two weeks to go! I can't believe I only have 5 weeks left (hopefully)! Yesterday was my last day of work and I am definitely ready for a few weeks off! Sadly though I still have to return for the two weeks before my due date. I guess we didn't plan this too well! Maybe Baby will decide to show up early (hey, I can dream).

I had a beautiful shower thrown by my friend Amy a month ago. Everything was perfect, very low key and a great time to visit with people! A couple friends I haven't seen in a while were there which was nice. Baby got a lot of fun things... a high chair, beautiful soft blankets, diapers, neutral clothes, a bumble bee shopping cart cover, picture frame, bottle sterilizer, hand made hooded towels... Baby is loved already! I feel so blessed. Since then I have been washing blankets and clothes getting ready. I am nesting, but the only room in the house ready is Baby's! So now I have the next three weeks to deep clean everything else!

I don't have too much to write... we have a Christmas party tonight (another one), so maybe I will actually take a picture of me and Scott and my ever growing belly ;) I will also post pictures of the nursery now... it is filling up nicely!

Baby's Room

It's hard to take picture in a little room! But, here is what we have so far. We still need the bedding and accessories, and I think we are going to put a shelf around the top of the room, but it is coming along nicely! Over the crib I am going to hang the comforter... since the baby can't use it in the crib. I also bought letters (one set says Jacob and the other set says Natalie) I am going to paint black and tie a gingham ribbon on and hang on the wall when we find out who it is in there.

The shelves of the changing table will have baskets for blankets, diapers and such, and I have a couple pictures to frame and hang on the wall. Oh, and I am ordering a small green and white striped rug for in front of the crib.

I think that is all for now! So many ideas, so little time!

I do have to say that my husband did a beautiful job on the floor, baseboards, paint and putting all the furniture together! Thanks, Bob for teaching him to be so handy!

We have a shy one here!

Here are a couple pictures from the 3D ultrasound. The baby likes to cuddle like Mom, with his/her hands by the face. The baby would not move around a lot for the entire 30 minutes. We got some great pictures of hands and toes, but no clear views of the face! Looks pretty cozy in there! Maybe this means Baby will like to snuggle!

Scott finished the floors in Baby's room and he put all the furniture together! It all looks great! He worked hard today! I just wish the house were a bit bigger.... the furniture seems quite large in there! I will need to find places to put toys, books and gear as we get it all... but we are happy with how it looks! Now we are just waiting on Baby!

I will post pictures of that tomorrow!

Only 15 wks to go!

Here is what Baby Center says is new with Baby:
Head to heels, your baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches. His weight — a pound and a half — doesn't sound like much, but he's beginning to exchange his long, lean look for some baby fat. As he does, his wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and he'll start to look more and more like a newborn. His hair is probably recognizable now (in color and texture), although both may change after he's born.

Boy, oh boy am I feeling Baby move more! And I can tell he/she is getting bigger! I know from here out Baby will keep growing, and so will I. I am getting nervous and excited to meet Baby. I think I am in denial about the whole labor thing. Mentally, I am not ready. I have held a few newborns lately and instead of thinking how little they are, I think "ah, they're huge! I know how they come out... and this is big!" I am sure drugs will help, but I do not want to hear any more birth stories! Everyone is different, so we are praying mine is not a horror story!

I have a Dr. appointment tomorrow and am not sure if I will be having the glucose test or not... I am sure it must be soon. Also, I know I will soon start by twice a month visits... which is another indicator of how much closer I am getting!

I think this weekend we may finally finish cleaning out Baby's room and paint. The rest of the furniture is in and we need to go pick it up. We can't put anything together though until we finish the walls and floor! No pressure! Our house is just too little to store everything in another room!

And I think this is stress... I know, just wait!

Big purchases and Movement

Yeah... the baby is a mover, finally! The first big movements I have felt were this week... Wednesday to be exact (9/27). We have a grade level meeting each week followed by a staff meeting and during the first part I was listening to other teachers talk when I felt like someone started playing the drums inside me! I told a coworker... "whoa, I've got either a dancer or a drummer in here!" I don't even remember what was said at the meeting because I was so focused on feeling the movement! Don't tell my boss :) My coworker said "The baby is probably bored... telling you to get out of here!" What an amazing feeling... I hear as time goes on and the little one grows it is not as much fun, so I am loving each kick right now!

We decided since we are not finding out what we are having, we want a better ultrasound! So today we have an appointment for a 3D ultrasound! Hopefully we can see the little face and watch him/her dance around in there! Scott and I are going and my mom will meet us there. Yeah! I will post the pictures when I get home! I am really excited to see how the baby has grown and to maybe see some distinct facial features. Ah, I just love this kiddo and can't wait to meet him/her! (I still have no gut feeling one way or the other! One day I picture how fun a girl would be, the next I think of little boys! Whoever God gives us, we will love and be blessed!)

We are starting to work on the room some more. We cleaned out the old guest room and bought a futon (it is so comfy to lay and read on!), took the closet doors off, painted the closet, installed shelves and moved the desk in. Now we need to finish cleaning all the stuff out of Baby's room so we can start the paint and floors! Yeah! We bought all the furniture, and we are waiting for the dresser and glider to come in. The crib, changing table and mattress are all in the room in boxes. My mother-in-law sent us money and we bought our travel system and pack-n-play... we really need to find room for it all! It should be here Tuesday! Here is a picture.... Thank you Sharlene! The top picture is a foot... you can almost see the toes, if you look closely. The other two show the head/face and part of the body...kind of looks like an alien, but Baby is my alien :)
I am starting to feel movement on a consistent basis, which is exciting! Baby always wakes up when I get home from work... or maybe that is when I am still enough to feel! Such fun... I hear until I am so big it just hurts... but for now, I am still in awe!

Our Mellow Kid

I am amazed at how the ultrasound techs know exactly what they are seeing and measuring! We went yesterday and got to see the baby. The tech started measuring amniotic fluid, the head, limbs, and spine. She was telling us what she saw, but at times I just nodded and said "oh!" I think the kid is going to be a gymnast thought because he/she was in such a contorted position. Baby was laying down with his/her feet at the top of its head... knees in the nose. I said "baby, stretch out... your mamma's tall... you have room!"

I also hadn't eaten since lunch and the tech said "you have a mellow baby here!" The heartrate was 128 until she started poking around. Then the baby moved around for a minute or two and the rate went up to 138. Then back to sleep. I guess I should have eaten some sugar before I went in so he/she would be awake!

On a side note, we thought Phoebe was a mellow puppy too until we got her home and she started to howl. Not that I am comparing the two, but let's hope this one turns out to be right and the baby is mellow!

We got a video and three pictures. The pictures aren't great like I have seen others, but at least I can make them out! One is of the foot and the other two are of the head/face and part of the body. I'll admit, I was looking for a little more, maybe better pictures, but I won't complain. The tech said everything looked healthy and on target and that was our prayer! We even counted the fingers and toes (on one hand/foot at least).

We didn't find out the sex either, although it was a bit tempting! But I don't even know if she could have seen based on how he/she was in a ball. I guess we will know sometime in January!

I'll post the pictures later... I am going to have them scanned at work!

Baby and Work

I heard the baby's heartbeat last week. It was 144bpm and sounded like a washing machine! I recorded it on my phone and emailed it to myself, but haven't figured out if I can put it on the blog yet!

So far, I have gained 8lbs. How disappointing! But, I have been having appointments at 4pm and am in a lovely swelling phase! My rings don't fit, my socks leave indentations, and all of my shoes are tight! Scott and I went to SF a few weeks ago and I bought some great boots at Nordstrom (they were 1/2 size bigger for comfort) and as of right now, they don't zip! Sheesh! I wear a size 11, which is hard enough to find without having to look for wide or even *gasp* size 12!

So, I have been wearing flip-flops to work! Not so professional, but necessary! And even those leave a slight indentation at the end of the day. The doctor wasn't too concerned about it... my blood pressure is normal. He says it's the heat and standing all day. Needless to say, I have been looking for more ways to sit and teach. Maybe one of these days I'll tell the class I am having a baby!

Speaking of heat, my air conditioner in my classroom has broken 4 times this school year (10 whole days) leaving my room at 90 degrees and 30 people miserable! The maintenece guys are trying to fix it, but it is getting unbearable! Back to school night was Thursday and of course it was broken then! So, I tried to talk fast about curriculum, expectations, management, etc... but then every parent wanted to talk about their student. This may have been OK, but it was 90 freaking degrees and I am a swollen pregnant woman!!! Plus, it wasn't parent teacher conferences and we'd only been in school 9 days. The parents I needed to contact, I had already! I know, I will soon be one of those parents, so I shouldn't complain... I just wanted to pass out! I will say though, this year I think I have some great supportive parents! Even some who may help out once in a while! What a change from last year!

Luckily the district bigwigs were in my room when someone asked "is it always this hot in here." As a parent I would be upset if that was the learning environment of the classroom. I know I can't teach and the kids can't focus enough to listen! Hopefully, it will be fixed on Monday! Otherwise I may have to resort to a doctors note saying "Jan is advised against overheating and dehydration. This could lead to complications...." Maybe then I could get a NEW a/c in my portable instead of trying to rig it so it works most of the time! HA!

Last bit of news... I get my ultrasound on Tuesday! We are still not finding out the sex, but are excited to see if baby is healthy and developing as he/she should! I will post pictures next week!!

Practice

*Warning... I am going to rant!*

I love holding babies... always have. I've been babysitting since I was 12. Practically ALL of my friends have a baby... and I have held them every one of them. I even know how to change a diaper, install a car seat, figure out a stroller, give a bath, medicine, make a bottle, bounce while standing, etc. In other words, I am not new to the whole baby concept!

Apperantly something magical happens the moment people know you are pregnant. You no longer get to hold a baby for the pure joy. It is not being polite and letting the parents eat in peace while you make funny faces at a little one. Oh, no! It's not that simple any more!!! Now it is called "practice."

"Ah, look. Jan's practicing!"

Oh please... if it were practice, I would be taking one home and getting up for 12, 2, and 5 am feedings. I would be changing diapers and at times have spit up on my shirt. If it were practice I would be buying the diapers and seeing my social life dwindle!

It is not just one person saying it... it's about 5 everytime I hold a baby!

I also love when people who are parents make comments like "oh, wait until you have kids, you won't have time to make breakfast/dinner/pack a lunch." I guess fast food is the only way for working parents to survive! Or, "you won't have time to (insert anything you may possibly love to do)." Maybe I am being cynical, but how did I ever survive without all this knowledge? Why didn't someone "warn" me before I even thought of having a baby!?

Oh, and my other favorite comment "your life is going to change!"

Um, really? I thought it would continue as normal! As you can see, I am a bit sarcastic! But sheesh... I am 30! This was planned and not a surprise... (although according to the teaching world, not planned very well!) and we did talk about all aspects.

We are excited! When will people start telling me things like "it's the best thing that will ever happen to you!' "When they smile at you or say momma for the first time, it melts your heart!" I don't want anymore unsolicited advice on how my life will be. I want burst your heart amazing fall in love with baby stories! Is that too much to ask?

And I believe I will start practicing in January when my little one makes his/her debut! Until then, I am simply holding a baby! So there!

You smell like...

Scott went for a motorcycle ride last night with our neighbor Branden. Tiffani and I tease them that their bikes are "the other women!" Scott's is named Jezebel and Branden's is Scarlet (for the letter, not O'Hara). I mean, they are all shiny and make grown men drool when they see them! We secretly (or vocally) think they are more in love with their bikes than us, but apparently it is pure infatuation! Maybe it will pass, but I don't think so!

So, the boys went cruising with their mistresses. When Scott came home he bent over to kiss me... mind you he had been wearing a helmet and it was warm... and I told him he smelled like rust and sweat! Not a great combo! By the way, I am not loving the fact that I can smell everything 100x's better that I could 4 months ago! So, the sweet guy he is, he washed his face with Cetaphyl and came back to kiss me.

He leaned over and as he was getting closer I whispered... I went back to work last week for a class. I am now (partially) qualified to teach GATE students. While the class was interesting and informative, I was so tired of sitting all day! Which I think is funny because I have been on my butt all summer! Maybe because I had to think while sitting!
Today and tomorrow I have even more training... I really am going to be a highly effective teacher! Oops, I mean, I already am! Then Monday, I meet the kids! I don't know if I am ready for them! I am reading their cards and the ones saying "disrespectful to authority" or "does nothing" really thrill me! Was there nothing positive to say? I am trying to avoid forming an opinion until I meet them. Honestly though, I can handle the kids... I am worried about the parents! Will they be supportive, or will I be the teacher who can do no right?

Pregnancy...
Isn't it too early to have cankles at the end of the day? I used to have ankle bones... but by 3:30, they are gone! I had Scott check my blood pressure and it is perfect, so it must just be the standing and the heat!

Heartburn... gotta love it! TUMS is my new best friend! I take him everywhere I go!

It's only going to get better! Amy send me a blog of birth stories! HELLO! Are you trying to scare the crap out of a first time mom? I don't want to know these until I have my own to share! 36 hours of labor, stitches, crazy mean nurses, 12 lb babies... I don't want to know! Let me live in my delusion that I will be in labor for 5 hours, push for 15 min and have a perfect baby whose head is round, not cone shaped! Reality will hit soon enough! I am still adjusting to my boobs growing and the thought my clothes might not fit tomorrow! I don't watch Baby Story for these reasons!

She also says I should shake things up a bit...
But I'm scared! I can't reveal too much about my life because 1) people can do a google search and find this page, so I wouldn't want any parents to read how crazy I really am... 2) family reads it too, so I can't gripe about Scott :) or go into too many details. I wouldn't want to come off as blunt or too offensive, although I know I can be at times! and 3) I can't remember half the stuff that happens throughout the day because my brain cells are slowly dying off!

Oh, but I did think of something funny...

14 Weeks

BabyCenter Update!
Head to bottom, your baby's 3 1/2 inches long — about the length of a lemon — and weighs about 1 1/2 ounces. Her body's growing faster than her head, which now sits upon a more well-defined neck. By the end of this week, her arms will have lengthened and will be in proportion to the rest of her body. (Her legs still have some growing to do, though.) She's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair all over her body (called lanugo). Her liver starts secreting bile this week, a sign that it's already functioning properly, and her spleen starts contributing to the production of red blood cells. She's also producing and discharging urine into the amniotic fluid, a normal process that she'll keep up until birth. You still can't feel your baby's movements, but her hands and feet (which are now half an inch long) are more flexible and active. Thanks to brain impulses, her little facial muscles are getting a workout as she squints, frowns, and grimaces. She can grasp now, too, and she may be able to suck her thumb.

Yeah.... he/she has grown from a jumbo shrimp to a lemon! It is so neat to see how fast they develop and grow! What a miracle!

I fear that I may not look pregnant for quite some time though. Since I am tall, I am sure there is room in there before anything pops out. Plus, being on the thicker side, it may take longer. I think the baby is hiding in my back right now! I guess that means I can wait longer to tell my class so their parents don't freak out! I guess only time will tell!

Hide-N-Seek

I had my second doctor appointment on Thursday. It was pretty standard... pee in a cup, weigh in, blood pressure, answer any questions, and then check for the heartbeat. My blood pressure was "perfect" and I gained a couple pounds (according to my scale I hadn't... but my first appointment was in the morning and this one was in the afternoon). The doctor brought in a Doppler to listen to the heartbeat and he searched for a few minutes. Then he went and got a new battery, listened some more, got a new Doppler, listened some more and nothing! I had heard this could happen so I wasn't too stressed. Then he said..."Ah, let's just go look at it instead!" So, I got another quick ultrasound! This one was pretty blurry (my bladder was empty!) but we could see the baby's heart beating away! The doc moved around and we saw the profile of the face, but the most clear was when the leg went up and kicked! I saw toes! And the baby seemed to have the hiccups because he/she kept bouncing! Little active thing! It's beginning to seem real! Seeing the heartbeat is great, but I want to hear it! Maybe next month.

I think I am coming out of the morning sickness phase! I still get a bit nauseated, but I think that has to do it being 110 d egrees outside! But now I have hit the emotional stage! I watch TV and tear up. I have friends going through some rough times and you would think it was us by the way I can't stop crying! Sheesh! Scott just laughs, but I feel like a crazy lady! The joys of pregnancy! Yeah!

Surgery

Scott is having another surgery this morning and I am a bit nervous. I know it is a common surgery and there should be no complications, but I am hormonal and a bit freaked out! I am sure this is completely normal for me to feel this way... I mean, any surgery can be dangerous. But, the poor guy can't breath and doesn't sleep well, so he does need it.

He's not allowed to eat and he just had to leave the house because he is too tempted! It's sad when I know he loves breakfast! And they scheduled his prep at 10:45 which means surgery will be even later. He's a tall guy... couldn't they have let him have the 8am appointment? At least I wouldn't have to feel as bad for him (or listen to him complain about wanting to eat!).

I found out yesterday I have to be back at work on July 31 (our anniversary) instead of Aug. 7. I was hired late last year and didn't get the new teacher training, so I get to do it this year. Luckily I will get extra pay, but I lose a week of my summer! I have been trying to go in my room and slowly set it up so I will be a bit ahead of the game... since I still feel like crap!

I'll post more after surgery with an update on the patient.

UPDATE: 7/20/06
Scott's surgery went well. He had to be at the hospital 2 hours before surgery which lasted 45 min. Then he was in recovery for over an hour. He doesn't seem to be in much pain other than having a headache. His nose looks pretty gross. He has splints in it but you can't see them, they just make his nose look wider and his nostrils big. Poor guy. He's been sleeping on the chair in the living room and so far he is snoring way MORE than before! Hopefully it is because of the splints! We shall see next week!

Three months!

I made it to three months! (Only 7 to go!) I should be officially beginning my second trimester on Thursday! Yeah! Maybe that means no more sickness. I won't get my hopes up though because my mom was sick the entire time with both me and my brother... augh! So, I am just trying to smile and nap my way through it!

I went to my district office today to tell them I was pregnant and see what kind of leave I get. Between my sick leave (19 days) and family leave medical act(FLMA), I can have up to 12 weeks of disability. But, I must have a note saying I need that long, otherwise it is 6 weeks. I figure if I am a week late and get 8 weeks off somehow, then I will have to go back after spring break. Then there will only be 9 weeks left of school. Since I think my due date is really later, and first babies seem to show up late, this may work out! I also have to apply for disability insurance since we don't pay into it. I don't know how this will work with a "preexisting condition" but we shall see!

Scott was talking to the people in HR at his work asking about the FLMA to see how much time he can take. The woman asked why he needed it and he said because I was having a baby. She said "but why do you need it specifically... bonding, what?" He felt like it was an interrogation! She didn't know the answer, so I guess we will find out on that too!

Baby Center Update:
Your belly may soon be big enough to announce to the world that you're expecting, but your baby is still tiny. In fact, he's only about 3 inches long crown to rump — roughly the size of a jumbo shrimp — and weighs just about an ounce. Despite the small proportions, there's a fully formed baby inside your womb now. Much more proportional than it was a few weeks ago, his head is now only about a third the size of his body. His tiny, unique fingerprints are already in place. His kidneys and urinary tract are functional, and he's starting to urinate out the amniotic fluid he's been swallowing. As you start your second trimester, most of your baby's critical development will be completed, and your odds of miscarriage will drop considerably.

Pretty darn amazing! Fingerprints already. Wow! How can anyone say this isn't a miracle? My little jumbo shrimp!

Thursday I have my next doctor appointment and finally get to hear the heartbeat! yeah! I wish I could record it and post it here somehow! I really wish I could have another ultrasound to see how he/she has grown in the past 4 weeks! *prayers for a strong heartbeat!*

Crib and changing table

Picture them in black... Since we found out we are having a baby, Scott and I have gone back and forth about if we really want to find out the sex of the baby. At first we were all for it! Then we could decorate and call the baby by name and buy cute clothes! But the more we thought about it, we have both always wanted to be surprised! We talked about how much more exciting delivery would be waiting to find out who we were having. I also think it would be extra special for Scott to make the big announcement "It's a girl!!!" or "It's a boy!!!" Plus, I think it will help keep my prayers focused on a healthy baby and not putting in my order to God! (as if that works!)

I know most people aren't excited to hear we won't know what we are having until he/she gets here! Over the last year about 8 babies have been born to friends and every one of them found out what they were having... we are definitely not the norm! (but no one ever accused us of that before) I love the questions/comments "how will people know what to get you?" or "wow, you're gonna get a lot of green and yellow!" Well, we figure, since the baby will be born in the winter he/she will be wearing a lot of sleepers and blankets, so it should be alright!

We were bored today and decided to go to Babies R Us in Bakersfield and browse through all the stuff we will need when baby gets here! Boy, oh boy...there is so much! We (I) had a crib picked out at Pottery Barn Kids (which was way too expensive) and when we got to BRU, we found one we really loved (less than half the price!) And the bedding in it is what we decided to register for. It is yellow and green with honey bees and black gingham. The crib and other furniture we picked is black (definitely not traditional) and the bedding looks beautiful with it! We even found a glider which was black with black gingham fabric! So, this is what the nursery will be... honey bees! I am ready to paint! However, we still need move the furniture out of the room, rip out the carpet, put in the new floor and baseboards before we can paint! I guess I need to wait until Scott's shoulder heals first though... wouldn't want him to need another surgery because I was too enthusiastic!

I'll post pictures of the bedding above!

11 weeks

So, the other day I thought I had reached the end of morning sickness, and I got worried! It was too early... is everything still OK? The sweet baby decided this morning to let me know he/she was still growing by making me sicker than I have been at all! But, it's OK... I will take it as long as I know things are progressing well!

BabyCenter Update for week 11:
Your fig-sized baby is now fully formed — measuring 1 1/2 inches long and weighing in at a quarter of an ounce. His skin is still transparent, allowing many of his blood vessels to show through. Some of his bones are beginning to harden, and tiny toothbuds are starting to appear under his gums. His fingers and toes have separated, and he may soon be able to open and close his fists. He's already busy kicking and stretching, and his tiny movements are so fluid they look like water ballet. These movements will increase as his body grows and becomes more developed and functional. As his diaphragm develops, your tiny tenant may also start to get the hiccups. Because he's still so small, though, you won't feel any of his workouts or intrauterine gulps until sometime between weeks 16 and 20.

Looks like BabySedo is growing! A few more weeks and I may feel some flutters!

Here we are!!!

Hi all! Well, my good friend Amy helped her friend design this site especially for our newest family member! I can now post the latest information regarding the baby so family and friends who may not get to see us all the time can stay updated! So, thank you Amy and Ginger! The page looks great and what a sweet gift! You're the best!

I had my first doctor appointment on June 21 and he said everything looks as it should! Scott went with me, although still a bit drugged from surgery 2 days prior, and I had an ultrasound. I was a bit nervous and kept waiting for the doctor to say "no baby in here... are you sure you took the test right?" But, that didn't happen! I looked up and there on the screen was BabySedo! So tiny, but definitely a little person! The heart beating was the best... and so fast! I can't wait until my next appointment when I can actually hear it! As soon as I scan the pictures I will post them (and tell you what end is what)!

I have had quite a bit of morning sickness and am ready to be in the stage where I have energy! But, I also don't want to rush things because time will pass too quickly and the baby will be 12 before I know it! Scott has been great! I think it helps that he hasn't been feeling well either, so we watch movies together and read a lot! He is so excited too! I have been reading BabyCenter (website) and looking at different bedding (I'll post pictures of thoses later!). Each week I tell him how big the baby is and what is developing and he's thrilled!

According to BabyCenter here's what's happening this week:

Your baby is no longer an embryo! Though she's barely the size of a kumquat — just an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, she now has completed the most critical portion of her development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in her body rapidly grow and mature. Her vital organs — the liver, kidney, intestines, brain, and lungs — are now in place and starting to function (although they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy). Her liver continues to make blood cells, and the yolk sac, which previously supplied these cells, is no longer needed and begins to disappear.

During the next three weeks, your baby's length will more than double to nearly 3 inches. Her head is proportionately smaller now than it was a few weeks ago, but it's still almost half the length of her entire body. Her forehead temporarily bulges with her developing brain and sits high on her head; it will later recede to give her a more human appearance. Each day, more minute details — including tiny fingernails, toenails, and peach-fuzz hair — start to appear on her body. Her fingers are now completely separated; her arms bend at the elbow and curve slightly; her hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over her heart; her legs are lengthening; and her feet may be long enough to meet in front of her body. She is busily swallowing amniotic fluid and kicking her legs.

If you could take a peek at your baby this week, you'd be able to clearly see the outline of her spine through her parchment-thin skin. Spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from her spinal cord.

They keep saying she... but we are hoping for a HE! (We will be thrilled with a girl too... as long as it is healthy!) That's all for today, so check back in periodically and see news about the baby!
